Manchester 2600: ‘Owning Manchester since 1995′
With its brash motto and minimal website, Manchester 2600 seems the very model of a secretive underground society:
It is aimed at everybody with an interest in computer security, telephony, hacking, phone phreaking, cryptography, internet security/privacy issues, urban exploration and related subjects.
People from all walks of life are welcome, from both the ‘white hat’ and ‘black hat’ sides of the computer security world (you might be surprised at some of the people who have turned up in the past).
Though the Green Room on Whitworth Street used to be its venue of choice, the Bulls Head, opposite Piccadilly Station now hosts Manchester 2600’s monthly gatherings.
The Friday meetings begin at 7.30pm and continue ‘for as long as at least two participants are able to maintain an intelligent conversation’. So maybe not the uber-serious society I had them down as…

It’s not very interesting – just some saddos sat in a pub talking bollocks, thinking they’re something they’re not.

I’m not sure if it’s the claim ‘Owning Manchester since 1995’ or the fact they meet in the Bulls Head that cracks me up so much!
I’m definitely going down there to covertly keep my eye on this lot – anyone fancy starting a spying club?

Hello, the Manchester 2600 are both informative, friendly & fun. A meeting place for many people coming and going through the hacking community in the north west since the meetings inception. I have attended many a times and had the delight of meeting some of the north wests fining computer hacking talents. Its a great and positive place to discuss and share ideas about hacking and just – hang out and get drunk! However, if you come and meet me with the attitude displayed here you may find my friendly smile replaced with the menace of a sawn off shotgun or perhaps be ejected face first into the wall of the toilet when you get upto urinated mid-spying mission.
As for the saddo part… who the fuck blogs anyway?
