How do you plan to spend Bank Holiday Friday?
If the answer is ‘hungover’, an ale trail of Manchester on Thursday evening might be just the thing:
We look at the amusing story of drinking and pubs whilst partaking of your favourite tipple be it real ale or mineral water.
The event is organised by Gameplan Events and will be hosted by Jonathan Schofield, the Manchester historian, broadcaster and journalist who just made the move from the MEN to become chief editor of Planet Confidential.
Jonathan describes this tour as ‘two hours of fun, fact, booze and a jokey quiz with local prizes’. I hear rumours that it’ll be taking in the likes of Britons Protection, Marble Arch and the Town Hall Tavern.
It costs just a fiver, though sadly drinks aren’t included, and begins at 6pm. The ale trail only happens twice a year so this is your perfect opportunity to learn more about Manchester – and your perfect excuse to get impossibly drunk.
By the way, you should have a read of this transcript from a tour Jonathan did with the BBC’s Cash Peters. It contains a few interesting facts about the city – that Mr Rolls first met Mr Royce at the Midland Hotel, for example.

I had lunch sat in Piccadily gardens with my son and then we went and queued up in the science musuem and didn’t get to see Dr Who! It was really lovely and hot though and the rest of the MOSI is great to walk round and the things in the Xperiment section are mega-fun!
