Camera Culture photography society at Kro Bar

Here’s a new photography club, spotted through TheArtGuide:

Are you interested in photography, art and meeting like minded people? Would you like to be creative and also go to a variety of social events? If so Camera Culture UK membership might be just what you’ve been looking for…

Again, the phrase ’social events’ concerns me, but at least they’re using interesting venues: the launch event earlier this month was at Cafe Casbah in Shudehill, and tonight’s follow-up is upstairs at Kro Bar, opposite the Union on Oxford Road.

There’s plenty of detail on the Camera Culture website. I’m surprised to see something so new has an annual membership fee of £90 – they’re clearly hoping for rapid growth. Email organiser Alex Jerman if you’re interested.

they had me until the £90 bit… what does this offer over a camera club such as South Manchester Camera Club which seems to offer similar but at a much better rate.

Any ideas what the £90 actually covers? The events all seem to mention buying tickets or arranging your own travel to places – it can’t be £90 purely for membership surely? Is Alex that well established as a photography teacher?

Just had an email from Alex with his qualifications and a couple of notes – i take the above back – sounds like it could very well be worth the monies.

That’s a very prompt response then. Glad you’re satisfied with his reply.

Toast: South Manchester Camera Club is worth visiting for its venue alone:

Platt Chapel

There’s a gig happening there this week I think.

I *think* thats a different club actually…. yeah, manchester amateur photographic i think

I actually joined cameraculture to see what it was about and went to the 1st meetup on Saturday taking photos – I had a cool and interesting afternoon wandering round the Northern Quarter snapping away, I like to do my own thing and I could do just that with advice on hand when I needed it, and it wasn’t all male dominated like some clubs are (apparently). Kasbah cafe does great cakes too.

Hi

I am interested in setting up in business as a photography agent. I am looking for people who have good panoramic shots of the British Isles.

I would be willing to offer the photographer 40% of the proceeds, but they will keep the copyright and they will be paid recurring fees for each shot sold. They will get between £12 and £20 per sale. As they receive recurring fees for each shot, they could be looking at hundreds or even thousands of pounds for each pic.

If any of your members are interested in this opportunity, please could they send me the photos to my e-mail address which is

davidrpverney30@yahoo.co.uk

Please ask them to send the shots in a .jpg format. Thank you for your time.

Regards

David Verney

After some market research the membership rates for Camera Culture Manchester membership have been revised and are now very reasonable. They were previously £75 and £55.
Membership rates for 07/08 are:
Fully Waged £55
Concessions £45
Both rates receive an extra month free.
It is fully inclusive and not only covers photography, art and cultural social events too. It is very different to a traditional camera club. Membership benefits are all listed on the Membership Rates & Details page of the website.
First event is free if you’d like to give it a try. See http://www.cameracultureuk.com for a diary of events and more details. Thanks

Thanks for the update Alex! Good idea making the first event free too. Good luck with it.

Thanks, the reason I set up the group was because I could not find anything similar in Manchester which involved photography, art and cultural social events.

Manchester is alive with many photographic clubs, all federated to the lancashire & cheshire photographic union(l&cpu). To set the record ‘ Maps’ meet at platt chapel. South Manchester Camera Club meets at Didsbury Methodist church every monday evening( smcc.org.uk)the leading club and one of the largest clubs in the north west.

Camera Culture Manchester is almost a year old and is going well. It’s a bit different from the camera clubs you mentioned James, its not really a camera club in the traditional sense, its a photography, art and cultural social events group, with all the events organised for its members by a professional photographer and photography teacher, Alex Jerman
http://www.alexjermanphotography.com
Alex is at each event to help you with your photography if you need it, and on some events, the artwalks, especially in the summer, sketching takes place as well as photography. We usually visit places of interest, exhibitions, galleries, enjoy some good food and cafe culture and have a regular alternative cinema and social night.
I have attended both of the Camera Clubs you mentioned, James, before I set up the group, and although they werent what I was looking for at the time, there are many photographers that enjoy them a great deal. Some of the Camera Culture Manchester members attend both.
Anyone, at any level of photographic or artistic experience, can try Camera Culture Manchester for free, see the website diary page for details of the next events http://www.cameracultureuk.com
The membership rates have stayed the same for 2008.
cheers Alex

Hi,

I am a Manchester based web developer and amateur photographer. I am currently developing a website service which will allow photographers to easily and quickly create their own proffesional looking website using the tools and templates we provide. This will give photographers of all skill levels an budget, the opportunity to get on the internet, and start promoting their talent, whilst having full control over its content and appearance.

To ensure i make the product as appropriate as possible, feature rich and approrpiately priced, i would like to get some input from photographers of various skill levels. As such i would be greatful if you could ask your members to please take a look at my online survey. It is only 8/9 question and should take no more than a minute to complete.

As a thank you for their time i will be offering a number of free accounts -once development is complete- to those names drawn at random from the completed entries.

Please let me know if you would be willing to forward this information to your members.

The survey can be completed online here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Za4HBONRRcGOlJXbGmyNAA_3d_3d

Additionally i would be happy to supply a paper version for those not wishing to complete the online version.

Kind Regards
Phill Healey

The only website service I would recommend as I have used them myself is mr site.

Hi,

I was after recommendations, especially as the site isnt built yet. I am simply asking for peoples input via a quick (<1 minute) survey. This is to help me build the most suitable product.

The survey can be completed online here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Za4HBONRRcGOlJXbGmyNAA_3d_3d

Thanks

*edit ti post above.

I meant ‘i wasnt after recommendations…’

why dont you look at their system and see if you can improve it

i intend to Alex. ;-)

Plus picParade.co.uk will have the advantage of being designed with photographers and artists in mind, rather than a generic 1 size fits all.

Hi, My name is becky and i have a model management company in which i send girls to castings for various magazines and newspapers.
I usd to model myself and always enjoyed having my photos taken with camera clubs around the country and amature photography days.
I was wondering if you would be interested in maybe letting the members of your camera club know that i have girls available for work if they would want to ever shoot them either in a stidio which i can arrange for them also with a photographer at hand to help or on location.
If you could get back to me that would be fantastic.
Regards
Becky Kay x

My e-mail is becky@mrkay.co.uk if anyone would like to get back to me and my web site will be live in the morning so take a look.
