Big Media, meet little blogs
On the bus this morning I read about blogging in the Metro. Then, on the bus on my way home, I read about blogging in the Manchester Evening News. Am I missing something?
Simon Donohue’s piece is well written and informative enough - I can’t fault it, though I’d like to have heard from more than two bloggers when there are so many within easy reach. He does well to flag up tonight’s BBC Manchester blog workshop.
What I would like to see in mainstream media, and haven’t yet done, is something in-depth about blogging. Everything so far has assumed no knowledge and, as such, is always pretty limited in scope.
I know this information is available online - at the Blog Herald, for example - but why not printed in a lifestyle supplement?
The Metro’s angle is pretty novel: a ‘Best of Brit Blogs’ award (though I’ve no idea why they’ve used Blog singular). Such awards work well, as we saw with the Manchizzle-organised Manchester Blog Awards last year. I look forward to seeing if any Mancunian blogs are nominated.
