That fog sure was weird! Could hardly see 20m from my flat to the next building!

As someone who's moved to Manchester from, er, Hampshire (sorry!) I can safely say that Manchester has disappointed me with how little rain I've actually experienced. Last summers heatwave really suprised me, but am looking forward to a repeat this year!!

Ah yes I remember the earth tremors in October 2002. Yesterday we had thick fog and today the Sun is bright and the sky is blue.

Hah! Thanks for butting in... saves me the effort. This fog today's pretty weird.

Anyway, the Ask page is broken at the moment. Please ask here while I work out how to fix it. Mike's already been in touch:

'What happened to the sandstone-carved Manchester coat-of-arms that was attached to the bottom end of The Arndale (opposite Maxwell House, where Big Next currently lives), but vanished shortly after The Bomb went off?'

hi. excuse me Chris for butting in but like a total anorak i have this info to hand.
Manchester gets a positively measly 809mm of rain per year - less than Glasgow, Plymouth and Cardiff.
Ditto the average length of downpours (half-an-hour to four hours) which occur on an average of 180 days per year. Snow's pretty rare and temperatures don't often dip below freezing. Possibly the wierdest thing I can recall about our weather (stretching that description slightly) is the earthquake<a href="http://www.cosis.net/abstracts/EAE03/10286/EAE03-J-10286.pdf" rel="nofollow">'swarm'</a> of 2002. A surreal couple of weeks indeed.

How frequently and much does it rain in Manchester? Is it really as much of a rainy city as we think?
