Andy Rourke’s big Manchester busk

The NME is reporting (via RetroMusicSnob) that Andy Rourke, former bass player in The Smiths, is trying to organise the world’s biggest busk to raise funds to fight cancer:

The bassist is appealing to members of the public to sign up for the event, to be held in Manchester city centre’s Exchange Square on January 13. The gig, which will be held between 2pm and 4pm, will see Rourke and his busker bandwagon serenading shoppers with renditions of their favourite songs.

If you’re interested in joining the big busk, register for the event by emailing your name, contact details and how you plan to busk to busking@greatnorthernproductions.co.uk.

The second outing of Rourke’s other charity event, Versus Cancer, takes places at MEN Arena on March 30 this year.

Acts are being announced in the coming weeks but it’ll be the usual Manc suspects, one suspects.
