Manchester police prepare for double celebration
Hundreds of police officers wiIl be deployed to Manchester’s “curry mile” for this weekend’s Eid festival, which coincides with New Year’s Eve for the first time in 26 years.

Manchester centres to be re-branded
Manchester’s G-MEX Centre and the adjacent Manchester International Convention Centre are to re-brand and will be known as Manchester Central from January 1. The area around Manchester Central will be known as Petersfield, originally named St. Peter’s Field in the 19th century.

Pupils face chaos on buses
Emergency travel arrangements may be made for hundreds of Greater Manchester pupils as the future of a troubled bus company is decided. Gorton-based GM Buses and its sister UK North were ordered to garage their 74-strong fleet over Christmas following safety concerns.
