When I was first getting in to media I had terrible trouble finding out what was based in and around Manchester: Manchester Evening News, Granada, BBC Manchester obviously, but surely a city of this size is full of smaller publishers and broadcasters?

As it turned out, a lot of media does indeed exist in Greater Manchester – you just have to scratch the surface a little. So to make life easier for people like me, who had to spend hours searching, I’m putting together a Manchester media directory.

So far I’ve just listed companies and publications, but I’ll gradually add contact details and descriptions. I’ve compiled the list from the extremely useful MediaUK, plus BBC Manchester’s directory and all the media-related posts on Mancubist.

Initial findings: religion is particularly well represented by Al Jazeera, Asian Image/Leader/News, Catholic Times/Life, the Jewish Telegraph and the Universe, as are business titles such as Industry Northwest, EN Magazine, North West Business Insider and International Trade Today.
