BBC’s Salford move to be delayed?

The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the BBC’s proposed move to Salford Quays’ MediaCity:UK may already be in danger.

A delay over a decision about the future of the licence fee is likely to push the move back a year from 2010 to 2011. What’s more, the move itself may be in question if funding is lower than hoped – this despite it being called “remarkable value for money”.

Mike from Chorlton was quick to respond:

Why should we in northern England, representing 25% of the licence fee, fund an organisation that is content to spend virtually 100% in one city – London? We should use our licence fee (it’s our money, not the BBC’s money depsite what the ‘luvvies’ may think) to set up our own public broadcaster here.

He has a point.
