Manchester’s GeekUp community

The new del.icio.us feed pays immediate dividends with mention of the aptly-named GeekUp:

GeekUp is a growing community of web designers, web developers, and other web-minded folk from the North West who meetup monthly in Manchester to discuss the latest industry news, share ideas and spread a little knowledge.

The aforementioned bookmark was actually for a free Ruby and Rails workshop running in the city centre on September 30 in association with the Manchester Digital Development Agency.

The network has also made me aware of local techy people and agencies such as Stockport’s Alt Tab, Orrell’s Andrew Disley and Didsbury’s Pixel Envy.

To be honest, I’ve got no clue what Ruby or Rails are. I’m going to find out though.

I think Ruby is a programming language. Rails is a development enviroment for building websites with Ruby.

Its supposed to be pretty easy to build quite complex websites with it.

If there are any Mancunain Rails programmers reading this, we’re looking for freelancers soon, possibly full time in the near future… Drop me a line: Gareth@stardotstar.com - apologies for blatent spam! ;o)
