Bolton Evening News renamed Bolton News
From Monday September 11 Bolton Evening News is becoming a daily, and will therefore drop ‘Evening’ from its name.
The move follows Lancashire Evening Telegraph’s renaming to Lancashire Telegraph a couple of weeks ago. BEN has held the ‘Evening’ tag for much longer than LET did.
The Newsquest-owned paper registered boltonnews.co.uk, theboltonnews.co.uk and theboltonnews.com on May 3, though all three domains are currently ‘forbidden’. Another party registered boltonnews.com in 2000.
The newspaper also uses the ThisIsBolton branding, though it appears to be phasing this out.
ThisIs is a hotly disputed media brand, by the way: Newsquest own over 30 ThisIs news portals, while Northcliffe own over 20 – including thisis.co.uk – in the UK.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Guardian Media Group own thisismanchester.co.uk and Newsquest own thisistrafford.co.uk.
The change of name is expected to be announced in tomorrow’s edition of BEN.
