Manchester Confidential vs MEN: Round 2

Interesting article over at Manchester Confidential: behind a light-hearted poke at the Manchester Evening News lies a suggestion that Manchester City Council has become irritated at the number of free MENs left lying around in the city centre.

The site’s publisher Gordo goes on to suggest that the Council’s Sir Howard Bernstein has told the paper’s editor Paul Horrocks to ‘either make it readable so people take it home, or put a big notice on the front page’.

I noticed today that the newspaper does now carry this message at the foot of the front page:

“When you have finished reading this newspaper, please remember to dispose of it thoughtfully and responsibly. Thank You.”

It doesn’t take much brain power to guess what Gordo is implying about the paper’s content, then.

As a side point, I just spotted a man walking around Chinatown, putting only newspapers into a binbag. He wasn’t wearing any kind of uniform to identify himself. Coincidence?

[Hat-tip to Manchester Clubbing once again]
