Big trouble for La Petite Anglaise
So the whole Petite Anglaise malarky is causing a bit of a stir in both the blogosphere and big media this week. Here’s who she is and here’s how her citations have grown:
Heck, even the BBC’s done a feature about her.
She was allegedly sacked for bringing her firm, accountants Dixon Wilson, into disrepute by calling her office “very old school” and noting her boss’ “plummy Oxbridge accent,” among other things. She also admitted to occasionally blogging on work time.
Catherine – who though she blogged anonymously – believes her main defence is that she never mentioned the firm’s name. The legal sticking point seems to be whether a couple of photos she posted identified her, and therefore her employer.
But dig a little deeper and you soon find that she lied to her boss in order to have a hotel room affair on office time.
Just one line – “I told my boss that the childminder was sick and left work abruptly” – may have sealed her fate.
As with most media stories, however, not all’s lost for Catherine: she’s got a shiny new blog, and this time it’s on The Guardian’s flagship Comment is free site.
