Moving Manchester magazine

The old Moving Manchester magazineContinuing the early trend of blogging about the city’s media (see The Salford Star post), this week it’s Moving Manchester - the city’s “longest running lifestyle and property magazine”.

Before April 2006 Moving Manchester was published by HuHaPa - the Huckerby-Harris Partnership - who also run the Simple and Simple In The City cafes/restaurants.

According to its press pack back then, 65% of Moving Manchester’s readers were female. Most of the readership was aged 25 to 45, with high incomes, living in the city centre itself.

Circulation was 12,000 per month and the total readership was estimated at 30,000.

I’m not sure what type of deal took place earlier this year, but the Moving Manchester you’ll now find lying around the city is published by Brand & Brand, aka BBDM Limited, who also have offices in London and Leeds.

The new magazine - a bumper 72-pages in size - has incorporated Directory Magazine, which I’d never heard of before.

Their press release suggests a considerably increased distribution (to 20,000) with its “retail distribution model set to increase five-fold” too.

Though Craig McGinty over at ConnectMedia gave it a brief mention back in April, very little has been said about this change in management and outlook.

I agree with the comment on ConnectMedia, that Moving Manchester now looks and feels like a more substantial magazine.

This month’s issue has an interview with Richard Ashcroft (a “top Manc” despite coming from Wigan) and a guide to buying city centre property for under 150k. If only…

I agree - the new magazine is a huge improvement, and I consider it a genuinly useful source of information rather than the fluff I get through my letterbox from the MEN (Urban Life).
