A taste of China

Image c/o Manchester's Commonwealth Games websiteOn a couple of people’s recommendations, I tried out Ho’s Bakery on Faulkner Street in Chinatown this lunchtime.

I had a pastry slice containing pork and onions – something I don’t imagine Gregg’s will be rushing to replicate any time soon – and a brilliantly-named, gorgeous-tasting honey bun. I’ll be visiting again very soon.

Nashi/Asian pearsI also dropped by Wing Fat supermarket where I picked up a cross between a pear and an apple called a Chinese or Asian pear, or a Nashi in Asia. They’re apparently eaten by more people worldwide than the standard European pears.

To wash it all down I bought a can of “pearl milk tea”. Unlike most random drinks I try in Chinatown, it was very drinkable – like a sweet milkshake/mocha hybrid – though the squishy balls in the bottom were… unexpected.

Next time I’ll take a camera to photograph their live lobsters (claws tied, mind) and the razor clams, which had escaped their shells but not their packaging. They looked a lot like these:

Razor clams

Attractive little beasts, aren’t they? I guess they were somewhere near the back when He was handing out good looks.
